Puppy & Kitten Veterinary Care
Care for Puppies & Kittens
Bringing home a new puppy or kitten is a joyous occasion! Everyone who comes into contact with this adorable, cuddly new family member smiles.
As entertaining as it may be, there is some serious health care to attend to during your new pet's first year of life.
During your pet's first year, your veterinarian will design a personalized health care plan to meet his or her unique needs and give you plenty of support and guidance.
Your Pet’s First Appointment
Puppies should ideally have their first veterinary appointment around six weeks of age. A kitten should see a vet around eight weeks.
Pets are thoroughly examined during their initial visit to determine their overall health. We also look for any congenital defects or external parasites.
We will also administer roundworm and hookworm deworming medications, as well as the first round of puppy or kitten vaccinations.
More About Vaccines & Prevention
Finally, for kittens, we will perform a blood test to check for feline leukemia and feline immunodeficiency virus.
Follow-up Appointments
Between the ages of 6 and 16 weeks, puppies and kittens should have 3 to 4 veterinary appointments. Our veterinarians can assess your pet's overall health and administer vaccines on time during these visits.
